PMW005 James Spitler conducted “Project Management for Startups” 0n Aug 20, 2022. James is the Founder/President of Aktoh Group.

This presentation was about Project Management in startups and what you need to know in order to be successful and to possibly land your next position. Included are important issues to consider, such as basic skills, team building, and how to promote unity and knowledge among your team.

Knowing your team and identifying your leadership style is key to the formation of the team. Another requirement is finding the right tools, the services you provide, and what solutions are in play to solve business growth and reputation issues.

A good start is utilizing personality tests and understanding communication styles. Are your team members outgoing, introverted, intuitive and sensitive? These are all aspects of forming a productive team and can help to make a cohesive and high functioning group.

Consider hiring an expert to assess and educate your team. It may be well worth the cost depending on the size of your team. Another bonus is to figure out communication styles to promote collaboration, creativity and trust. In addition, a good method to promote all these things is to create a communication document online that can be shared by the whole team so everyone is on the same page.

Also important is to figure out communication styles among the group to promote creativity and trust. The best approach may well be to create a document outline on how to prevent miscommunication, hurt feelings, and/or possibly offending team members.

Identifying your leadership style is important as well. Communication with your team is critical too. Always be ready to improve, shape and grow. Remember, leadership starts at the top. Your availability to the team members is important as well. The group works well if there is a feeling of compatibility and a shared mission.

There are varying management styles. Rather than a sequence of tasks, the Agile approach breaks down milestones, delivering the project requirements incrementally throughout the project life cycle.
