Project Management World: PMW008 Job Opportunities

I was thinking about what if I was laid off, or about to be laid off, and had to find another job. What subjects would I like to see in the newsletter that would aid in my search.

First of all, I would like to see something positive and encouraging. Positions that would interest me and companies that would fit my interests and abilities. Companies like Monster, LinkedIn, Indeed and Project Management Crossing.

A necessary part of this endeavor is to research companies in detail. Other job openings that tell a lot about the direction of the company. Go beyond the website. Search the company history, read stock analysts reports and competitor listings.

Generally, medium to large companies will have several openings that fit your job history. Keep in mind your research is not wasted if you don’t get the first one. If you apply to a start-up, that company is unlikely to have more than one position available.

Think about how to list your abilities and accomplishments. Do not be afraid to boast a little bit about yourself and your accomplishments. It is a good way to exhibit self-confidence. Also important is to be up front and honest, whether interviewing on-line or in person.

Gordon Glover, a long-term PMW member, urges members to apply for positions at his firm Robert Half International, Inc. Openings are available at both the company and its clients.

Keep in mind. The right job for you is out there. All you need is perseverance to find the right one.
